Recent events in the Capitol complex illustrate the deeper, darker purpose of the plot that produced the January 6 protest gone wrong. The anti Israel, pro-terrorist demonstrations in the Capitol resulted in some arrests, but there won’t be any 10 year prison sentences handed out, or show trials, or physical and psychological abuse of those detained. They’re probably out on bail already. A few days before that a member of Congress pulled a fire alarm in the Capitol office building to shut down preparations for a Speaker vote later in the day, but his inane non-explanation was accepted by the police, the DOJ, and the mass media without much ado.
All this is more evidence of the two-tiered system of Justice that makes lefty Twitter scarecrows laugh at the mere mention of its existence. What’s most important, though, in the Jan 6 instance is the answer to this question: What is the equivalent of a judicial gag order when the Constitutional right at stake is Freedom of Assembly?
The answer is fear. What is the one most natural place for political protesters of any kind to assemble en masse and make themselves seen and heard in these United States? The nation’s capital, Washington, DC.
How many million-man/woman/mom/etc marches have we seen assemble on that mall and generally make the national news doing so? Plenty. Including in days gone by, the Right-to-Lifers, the Tea Party, and MAGA supporters. The latter three never got nearly as much attention as the moms or BLMers, but they got some and they got to meet one another to build networks for future cooperative effort.
That’s all over now. For them. The big DC door is closed to all but the approved political voices. Not officially of course. But that’s the reality. If you attend such a gathering in future, the FBI, the U.S. Marshals, the IRS, and the alphabet soup of other heavily armed federal law enforcement ass-kickers will hunt you down and haul you away publicly and in cuffs or shackles, regardless of age, law-abiding history, the presence of minor children, or the alarm of next-door neighbors. You are guilty of being suspected of being a domestic terrorist and an imminent danger to the ‘democracy’ we used to know was constitutionally a republic with strictly defined limits on the power of government to curtail or suspend your liberty, for, political reasons.
If you’ve been dubious about claims — repeated, ignored, repeated some more, ignored some more — that the Jan 6 event was in fact meticulously planned by federal agents operating undercover for months and carefully orchestrated while it was underway, stop being dubious. If you did your own share of ignoring because you didn’t really understand what the federal government had to gain by a fracas in the U.S. Capitol Building, wake up and smell the coffee. The opposition to rapidly increasing federal tyranny on behalf of global elites and inimical foreign nations has been locked out of the most vital national meeting space on earth. The storm troopers who are hunting down right-to-life grandfathers and devout Catholic grandmothers are the tanks of the American Tiananmen Square.
This is a space that must either be reclaimed by popular will and effort or replaced by multiple ingenious alternatives. Have you thought about that? Trump rallies are thousands not millions of voices. Where in this great land can large numbers of people assemble together to make themselves seen and heard again?
Turn your fertile imaginations loose on this challenge. What do you see? The Gateway Arch, the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Woodstock?? Where, how, and who to make it happen?
All I’ve got on this today. But it’s a big enough problem that it can’t be allowed to go the way of so many of our other liberties. Or can it? Up to all of us…
